Quick and Easy Harry Potter Gryffindor Style Scarf

One of my sister-in-law's friends had a crochet order with a tight deadline.  She wanted not one but two Gryffindor style scarves.  So I came up with this pattern.  It is very easy and would make a great beginning crochet project.

Materials:
  • K Hook
  • Bulky yarn in gold and burgundy or 2 strands of worsted weight yarn (I used two strands of red heart super saver in gold and burgundy)
  • Needle for weaving in loose ends
  • Scissors

Abbreviations:
  • ch= chain
  • dc= double crochet
  • st= stitch

In Burgundy ch 17
Row 1: In 3rd ch from hook make 1 dc, make 1 dc in each remaining st in row.   turn (15 dc)
Rows 2-5: Ch 2 and make 1 dc in each st in row.  Turn.  (15 dc)
switch to gold
Rows 6-10: Ch 2 and make 1 dc in each st in row.  Turn.  (15 dc)
switch to burgundy
Rows 11-15: Ch 2 and make 1 dc in each st in row.  Turn.  (15 dc)
*Repeat rows 6-10 and 11-15 until you have 10 burgundy rectangles or until scarf is at  your desired length (ending with a burgundy rectangle).
Weave in loose ends and add fringe to scarf (if desired)

Half and Half Minion Beanie Style Hat

Half and Half Minion Beanie

As an aunt I get frequent requests from my niece and nephews.  My niece requested a minion hat.  I thought "great, minions aren't difficult".  I asked her if she wanted a yellow or a purple minion, she said "both".  I then said "so you want two hats?".  She told me that she wanted one hat with half of the hat being a good minion and half of the hat being an evil minion.  Here's what I came up with.  It's a lot of color changes but I think the end result is nice.

Materials:

I hook (feel free to use a larger or smaller hook to change the size of the beanie).
worsted weight yarn in light purple (a), bright yellow (b), black, blue, brown, medium purple, white, and gray.
Tapestry Needle
Scissors

ch- chain
dc- double crochet
hdc- half double crochet
sc- single crochet
sl st- slip stitch
tc- triple crochet

Round 6: Ch 2, repeat round 5 but make stitches directly on top of those made in round 5.  This will make the rims of your minion's goggles thicker.

Make one more eye but switch to MEDIUM PURPLE at the end of round one. I left a long gray tail on my so I could sew the two eyes together before sewing the eyes onto the hat.

When eyes are finished sew onto hat.

Using BLACK surface sl st a mouth onto your hat. The mouth on the yellow side should be slightly going upwards to make a smile while on the purple side the mouth should either be flat or going slightly downwards to make a frowny face.

Teeth:

With WHITE ch 5, sc in second ch from  hook, hdc in the next chain, dc in the next, and tc in the final chain.  Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing the tooth on top of your minions mouth (on the purple side of the minions face)

Make as many teeth as you'd like/ your minion's mouth will allow.  Feel free to use different hook sizes to make your minion's teeth larger or smaller.

Hair for the YELLOW half:

Using BLACK cut 3 strands of yarn about 6 inches long.  Using your hook attach each strand individually

to the top of the yellow half of your minion's head.  Trim to desired length.

Hair for the PURPLE half:

Using MEDIUM cut 30 strands (cut more if you'd like your minion to have more hair) of yarn about 10 inches in length.  Use your hook to attach two strands at a time to the tops of your stitches from rounds 1 and 2 (purple half only).  Fray the yarn and trim to desired length.
